Gradually, the internet has been filling up with device after device, however the amount of IP addresses for each device has remained constant. Thus the internet is running out of space. To combat this situation IPv6 has been created, generating billions and billions of IP addresses. This allows for all devices to continue to have an individual and unique address thus keeping the functionality of the Internet to continue.

IPv4 vs. IPv6

IPv4 was used to describe the network address to almost all smartphones, PCs and servers, so that other devices could locate you and exchange data.
For example, your computer needs to know the IP address of www.friedpanseller.com 185.28.23.29 to read these text, and www.friedpanseller.com's server 185.28.23.29 needs to know your computer's IP address in order to send these data.

IPv4 offers 4.3 billion addresses. This sounded like alot when IPv4 was first introduced, but nowadays it is clearly not enough.

A problem called "IPv4 address exhaustion" exists; new addresses are running out, so it's hard for companies to get hold of large amounts of IP addresses.

IPv6 to the rescue! It offers 340 undecillion addresses. Instead of 123.456.789.012 IPv4 style, it is more complex; ab12::c34d:5e6f:7890:1234%56

5G Mobile

5G refers to the 5th generation of mobile celluar wireless communications. Currently, most mobile phones use 3G, with rich kids using 4G plans. South Korea is leading the development for 5G, currently planning to spend $1.69 Billion AUD on the project. Other countries such as China, England, USA and Germany are also co-operating to develop such a technology. South Korea claims their development of 5G will be put into testing in a few years and expected to be released in 7-10 years.


How it works

This type of wireless communication involves signal towers sending and receiving data from the user's mobile device. Each cell tower can only cover a small area therefore many are required, it is also the reason why 4G is only supported in major Cities and/or locations and 3G is unavailiable in very remote areas.
